Effect of Large Variations in Preload

چکیده
The normal human left ventricular response to large variations in preload was studied in 12 young men. M-mode echocardiograms were recorded at supine rest and compared with studies obtained during head-down tilt (HDT) at 50 and during progressive lower body negative pressure (LBNP) to -40 mm Hg. During HDT, end-diastolic volume (EDV) increased 23% (p < 0.001), stroke volume (SV) increased 35% (p < 0.001) and ejection fraction (EF) increased 10% (p < 0.05). Heart rate (HR) decreased by 5 beats/min (p < 0.025). During LBNP, EDV decreased 28% (p < 0.001), end-systolic volume (ESV) decreased 21% (p < 0.001) and SV decreased 33% (p < 0.001). LBNP was accompanied by a minor increase in HR (9 beats/min,p < 0.001) and a small increase in systolic blood pressure (11 mm Hg, p < 0.01). Comparisons between measurements obtained during HDT and LBNP showed significant differences in EDV, ESV, SV, EF, HR and diastolic blood pressure. The mean velocity of circumferential fiber shortening was unchanged. The combined data from the control studies and the interventions defined the normal left ventricular function curve as an exponential function where SV = 0.36 EDVY'' ml (r = 0.93, p < 0.001), which was not significantly different from the linear regression SV = 0.6 EDV + 0.57 (r = 0.92, p < 0.001). Our data indicate that the mean velocity of circumferential fiber shortening is an index of contractile state that is independent of preload, whereas other echocardiographic measurements are significantly altered by large changes in preload.

Preload Effect on Nonlinear Dynamic Behavior of Aerodynamic Two-Lobe Journal Bearings
This paper presents the effect of preload on nonlinear dynamic behavior of a rigid rotor supported by two-lobe aerodynamic noncircular journal bearing. A finite element method is employed to solve the Reynolds equation in static and dynamical states and the dynamical equations are solved using Runge-Kutta method. To analyze the behavior of the rotor center in the horizontal and vertical directi...

This paper presents the effect of preload on static and dynamic performance characteristics of several gas-lubricated noncircular journal bearing configurations. The linearized system approach using finite element method is used to obtain both steady state and dynamic characteristics. The results of the investigation shows that preload has a significant effect on frictional power loss and the ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Variations in Integrated Writing Tasks and Proficiency Level on Features of Written Discourse Generated by Iranian EFL Learners
In recent years, a number of large-scale writing assessments (e.g., TOEFL iBT) have employed integrated writing tests to measure test takers’ academic writing ability. Using a quantitative method, the current study examined how written textual features and use of source material(s) varied across two types of text-based integrated writing tasks (i.e., listening-to-write vs. reading-to-write) and...

M AINTAINING perioperative optimal cardiac preload in surgical patients is paramount for precise hemodynamic management. Hypovolemia may result in tissue hypoperfusion and worsened organ dysfunction, whereas fluid overload appears to impede oxygen delivery and compromise patient outcome. Several clinical and experimental studies have demonstrated the usefulness of dynamic indices based on heart...
متن کاملEvaluation of Fatigue Life Reduction Factors at Bolt Hole in Double Lap Bolted Joints Using Volumetric Method
In this research, the influence of bolt preload on the fatigue strength of 2024-T3 aluminium alloy double lap bolted joints has been studied experimentally and numerically. To do so, three sets of the specimens were prepared and each of them subjected to tightening torque of 1,2.5 and 5 N-m and then fatigue tests were conducted under various cyclic axial load levels. In the numerical method, th...
